Superalloy Machining Expertise
Machining superalloys presents unique challenges due to their high strength, work-hardening tendency, low thermal conductivity, and abrasive carbide content. At CastAlloy, our CNC machining centers are equipped with the specialized tooling, coolant systems, and programming expertise needed to efficiently machine these demanding materials. We provide precision machining services on both cast and forged superalloy components, achieving tight dimensional tolerances and excellent surface finishes. Our capabilities include 3-axis and multi-axis CNC milling, CNC turning, drilling, boring, and grinding operations tailored to the specific characteristics of each superalloy grade.
Materials We Machine
Our machining expertise covers the full spectrum of superalloy families. Nickel-based alloys including Inconel 718, Inconel 625, Hastelloy X, Hastelloy C-276, Waspaloy, and René 41 represent the majority of our superalloy machining volume. We also machine cobalt-based alloys such as Stellite grades and L-605, as well as iron-based superalloys like A-286. Each material requires specific cutting parameters, tool geometries, and machining strategies that our engineering team has refined through decades of production experience.
Quality & Inspection
Every machined superalloy component undergoes rigorous quality inspection using our comprehensive equipment suite including coordinate measuring machines (CMM), optical projectors, surface profilometers, and X-ray NDT systems. We maintain full dimensional and material traceability through our ISO 9001:2015 quality management system. First-article inspection reports, PPAP documentation, and certificates of conformance are provided with every order.

Frequently Asked Questions
Superalloys have high strength at temperature, rapid work hardening, low thermal conductivity that concentrates heat at the cutting edge, and abrasive carbide particles that accelerate tool wear. These factors require specialized tooling, reduced cutting speeds, and rigid machine setups.
We routinely achieve tolerances of ±0.001" on general dimensions and ±0.0005" on critical features. Surface finishes down to 16 Ra µin are achievable depending on the specific alloy and geometry.
