NDT for Safety-Critical Components
Superalloy components in gas turbines, nuclear reactors, and pressure systems serve applications where failure can have catastrophic consequences. Non-destructive testing provides the ability to verify internal and surface integrity without damaging the component, ensuring that every part entering service is free from defects that could initiate premature failure. NDT is not merely a quality checkāit is an integral part of the manufacturing process that validates the effectiveness of every preceding step from melting through final machining.
Our NDT Capabilities
CastAlloy maintains in-house NDT capability covering the full range of methods required for superalloy components. Radiographic inspection (X-ray) per ASTM E94 and E2104 detects internal porosity, shrinkage, and inclusions in castings. Fluorescent penetrant inspection (FPI) per ASTM E1417 reveals surface-breaking cracks, laps, and porosity. Ultrasonic inspection per ASTM A388 verifies forging integrity and detects subsurface discontinuities. Coordinate measuring machine (CMM) inspection verifies critical dimensions and geometric tolerances. And optical emission spectrometry (OES) confirms alloy chemistry.
Certifications and Documentation
Our NDT technicians are certified per ASNT SNT-TC-1A or NAS 410 as required by customer specifications. All NDT results are documented with inspection reports that identify the method, procedure, acceptance criteria, results, and inspector certification. Complete documentation packages including material test reports, certificates of conformance, and NDT reports accompany every shipment. Contact us for components with comprehensive NDT requirements.
