Subsea Material Selection
Subsea oil and gas production requires careful material selection based on the specific combination of seawater exposure, production fluid chemistry (H2S and CO2 content per NACE MR0175/ISO 15156), temperature, pressure, and design life. Inconel 625 is the premium choice for the most aggressive sour service environments, providing broad resistance to both seawater and production fluid corrosion. Inconel 718 serves high-strength structural and fastener applications where sour service hardness limits (HRC 40 per NACE) can be met. Super duplex stainless steels (UNS S32760, S32750) provide a cost-effective alternative for moderate sour service conditions.
