Medical Material Portfolio
Medical devices and implants require materials that combine biocompatibility with the mechanical properties needed for each specific application. Titanium alloys (Ti-6Al-4V ELI for load-bearing implants, CP Grade 4 for non-structural applications) provide the gold standard for osseointegrating implants. Cobalt-chromium alloys (CoCrMo per ASTM F75 for castings, ASTM F1537 for wrought) serve articulating surfaces in hip and knee replacements where wear resistance is critical. Stainless steels (316LVM per ASTM F138) are used for temporary fixation devices (plates, screws, nails) where lower cost and adequate short-term biocompatibility are sufficient.
Medical Manufacturing Capabilities
CastAlloy produces medical device components through investment casting for complex near-net geometries (hip stems, knee components, spinal cages), precision CNC machining from bar stock for cylindrical components (dental implants, pedicle screws, bone screws), and surface finishing including polishing, bead blasting, and passivation per ASTM A967. Our quality system supports medical device manufacturing with material certifications per ASTM medical device specifications, process validation documentation, and traceability systems compatible with FDA 21 CFR Part 820 and ISO 13485 requirements.
Development Partnership
CastAlloy supports medical device companies from early-stage prototype development through volume production, providing the manufacturing expertise and quality systems that help bring devices from concept to market. Contact us to discuss your medical device component requirements.
