Cladding Economics
Constructing entire vessels and piping systems from solid Inconel 625 is often prohibitively expensive. Weld overlay cladding provides an economical alternative by depositing a thin layer of Inconel 625 (typically 3–6mm) onto a carbon steel or stainless steel substrate that provides the structural strength. This approach delivers the full corrosion resistance of Inconel 625 on the process-wetted surface at a fraction of the cost of solid alloy construction. Inconel 625 filler metal (AWS ERNiCrMo-3) is one of the most widely used nickel alloy weld fillers due to its excellent weldability and broad corrosion resistance.
Applications for Cladding
CastAlloy supplies Inconel 625 clad components for pressure vessel internals and nozzle bore cladding per ASME standards, pipeline internal cladding for sour gas transport, valve body sealing surface overlay, heat exchanger tube sheet face cladding, offshore platform structural steel corrosion protection in splash zones, and reactor vessel cladding for chemical processing. We support both new fabrication (weld overlay before final machining) and repair/refurbishment of corroded existing equipment.
Quality Verification
Weld overlay cladding quality is verified through chemical composition analysis of the deposit (ensuring minimum alloy content at the overlay surface), bond integrity testing, hardness surveys across the overlay and heat-affected zone, and NDE including ultrasonic testing for bond defects and dye penetrant inspection for surface discontinuities.
