Subsea oil and gas equipment operates in one of the most challenging corrosion environments in any industry. Components are simultaneously exposed to external seawater (containing chlorides that cause pitting and crevice corrosion), internal production fluids containing hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide (causing sulfide stress cracking and CO2 corrosion), temperatures ranging from near-freezing seabed conditions to several hundred degrees at reservoir depth, pressures exceeding 15,000 PSI in deepwater and HPHT applications, and mechanical loading from wave action, current, and internal pressure fluctuations. All of this with zero maintenance access for equipment life spans of 20 to 30 years.
Inconel 625 Advantage
Inconel 625's high molybdenum content (8–10%) provides exceptional resistance to chloride-induced pitting and crevice corrosion in seawater, while its nickel-chromium base ensures resistance to H2S and CO2 corrosion in production fluids. The alloy meets NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 requirements for sour service without the hardness restrictions that limit high-strength precipitation-hardened alloys. CastAlloy produces Inconel 625 subsea components through forging for connectors, hubs, and valve bodies requiring maximum structural integrity, and through investment casting for complex manifold housings and flow-control components.
